High up in the mountains is hidden the amazing gold treasure of the Maricopas. The guardian of the treasure is the wise Albino, who lives reclusively in the treasures cave for years and whom the Maricopas honor as the voice of Manitou. Only the old chief Ma-Schom-Pa, his son "Strong Buffalo" and his daughters "Red Feather" and "White Dove" know the exact place of these amazing riches.

One day the infamous Frank Mason and his gang enter the hunting ground of the Maricopas at the Colorado River. They are looking for this amazing treasure of the Maricopas and don't even hesitate to murder. With spite and violence Mason and his gang can kidnap the daughters of the chief and slander Winnetou and his white friends.

The Maricopas seek revenge: Winnetou and all white men have to die at the stake. Even the Bear Hunter, who already lives for years on the territory of the Maricopas and who is the blood brother of Ma-schom-Pa, has to fear for his scalp. Together with Old Surehand, the best rifleman in the Wild West, Winnetou has to fight for justice.
